A native Montrealer, Cynthia Hawkins holds B.Mus. and M.A. degrees from McGill University, and has been involved in choirs since her youth – as a singer, conductor, board member, and manager. From 2005 to this past September, Cynthia served as Executive Director of the world-renowned Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary on October 20, 2019. Under her leadership the organization implemented strong marketing and fundraising plans, increasing its audience base by 25%, and raising close to $500,000 annually from government grants and private sector donations.

Cynthia has served on assessment juries for both the Canada Council for the Arts and Toronto Arts Council, and currently acts as a performing arts consultant. In August 2008, Cynthia was made an Honorary Member of the Royal School of Church Music, for exceptional work that has contributed to the cause of church music internationally.
