Roberto's Welcome Message

Join us for the 2007 - 2008 Season - our 40th!

It is with distinct pleasure that I invite you to join us and celebrate the 40th anniversary season of the Oakville Symphony. Since 1967, through the artistic vision of founding Maestro Kenneth Hollier and the dedication of founding and continuously playing members Jean Grieve, Janet Jones and Paul Lancaster, the OSO has grown into one of the finest community orchestras in the country.

To commemorate this milestone birthday of the OSO, we have created a season that features some of the greatest works in the entire symphonic repertoire. The majestic Piano Concerto #2 of Brahms, the sublime Symphony #6 of Tchaikovsky, Beethoven's lively Symphony #8 and the thrilling Violin Concerto of Dvorak are just some of the masterworks that will be performed during 2007-2008. Other season highlights include Rodrigo's Concierto Andaluz for Four Guitars (written for Los Romeros), Rossini's delightful overture to The Theiving Magpie and the rousing Capriccio Espagnole of Rimsky-Korsakov.

Our roster of superb guest artists will include the distinguished Canadian pianist Peter Longworth, the outstanding Romanian violinist Irina Muresanu and the exceptional talents of the Warren Nicholson Guitar Quartet. At our gala season finale in May, the exciting young cellist Adrian Fung and the thrilling vocal artistry of soprano Giovanna Carini will bring this special anniversary season to a rousing conclusion.

Thanks to the generous commitment and support of our subscribers, last season was completely sold out on subscription. We encourage you to again be a part of this special celebratory 2007-2008 concert year. The combination of great music, thrilling guest artists and the exceptional music making of the OSO musicians will guarantee you a season you will long remember.

I am also pleased and honoured that this will be my 10th season leading this fine group of musicians.

Join us for the celebrations.
