Join us for the 2009 - 2010 Season
Welcome to the 2009-2010 season of the OSO, our 42nd year of presenting outstanding symphonic concerts to the community of Oakville. We have designed a series of exceptional musical experiences that will engage and exhilarate you throughout the concert season.
As always, our concerts will feature exceptional guest artists, including two of the OSO’s outstanding principal musicians. Our distinguished Concertmaster, Joseph Peleg, will open our season with the majestic violin concerto of Sibelius. Principal Horn, Heath Allen, will be featured in February with the heroic Horn Concerto #1 of Richard Strauss. Two exceptionally talented and thrilling Canadian artists, violinist Véronique Mathieu and pianist Maxim Bernard will conclude our season with performances of the Wieniawski Violin Concerto #2 and the famous Piano Concerto #1 of Tchaikovsky.
The talented musicians of the OSO will be featured in outstanding symphonic works, including the sublime Symphony #1 of Johannes Brahms, the melodic Symphony #8 of Dvorak, Mozart’s incomparable Jupiter Symphony and the thrilling Spanish rhythms of De Falla’s Three Cornered Hat (El Sombrero a Trés Picos)
In addition to our symphonic subscription season, the OSO will also present a number of concerts for young people and families. Thanks to the efforts of the community outreach committee, the orchestra will be presenting its annual Young People’s Concert in September, and the highly popular Family Christmas program, a one-hour concert designed to put everyone in the holiday mood. We are delighted that the award winning Oakville Children’s Choir will again join us in this special seasonal concert in December.
On behalf of the dedicated musicians of the OSO, I invite you to join us again this season for another year of wonderful music. Your enthusiastic presence at our “sold out” concerts is an inspiration to us all.
We look forward to seeing you at the Oakville Symphony’s concerts in our 2009- 2010 season.
