Welcome to the 2013-2014 OSO Season!

Dear friends of the OSO,

Welcome to the 46th anniversary season of the Oakville Symphony. While I am always excited about the seasons that we have planned for you, the 2013-14 concert year is truly special. This new season is devoted to Oakville and, more particularly, the musicians who have called Oakville home. Indeed our entire season is entitled “Come Home To The Symphony”.

Distinguished violinist Stephen Sitarski, Calgary Philharmonic Principal Trumpet Adam Zinatelli, Violinist Leslie Ashworth, Afiara Quartet cellist Adrian Fung, Zurich based soprano Chelsey Schill and the Symphony’s Principal Flute Joan Browne, have family connections to Oakville. Along with these gifted guest artists, the Symphony will be presenting a World Premiere composition by Oakville composer Hunter Coblentz (a Master’s in Composition candidate at the Royal College of Music in London) as part of our season finale. The Symphony is delighted to present all of these exciting guest artists as part of this very special season. Their talents, along with the performances of the wonderful musicians of the Oakville Symphony, will make for a very thrilling series of concerts.

During the 2013-14 season, we will highlight the music of Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. The music of the great Russian composer will be represented by performances of his elegant Rococo Variations for Cello and orchestra and the truly exciting Symphony No. 5. The great Czech composer Dvorak is highlighted with performances of his sublime Violin Concerto and the beautifully melodic Symphony No. 6. Along with the music of Respighi, Berlioz, Mendelssohn and Puccini, this promises to be a truly unique and exciting season at the Symphony.

In addition to our highly popular subscription series of classical concerts, the orchestra will also be presenting its very popular annual Family Christmas concerts with the Oakville Children’s Choir, and a special concert for young people and their families at St. Matthew’s Church in October.

On behalf of the talented musicians of the Oakville Symphony, I would like to thank you for your outstanding support. Thanks to your enthusiasm and dedication to the Symphony, we continue to present great concerts to large and appreciative audiences.

I invite you and your friends to join us again and “Come Home to the Symphony”.
